Turning a door into a table

A customer wanted me to make him a dining room table from a door that he had rescued from a corporate office. It was valuable timber – Brazilian walnut.

A rescued door was the starting point for this Brazilian walnut table

All the spare timbers were door parts with letter voids, locks and mortise voids. They had to be joined and filled. It was a three-month project that turned a ‘pumpkin’ into a piece of woodworking art.

A rather clumsy effort gluing the stiles, this is how the door was received.
The door was at the end of its life but the wood could be rescued
