Pilots love checklists, they have one for every occasion, and so should we. If we’re going to get this kite to fly, we need to make sure all these boxes are ticked first…

First things first, you’ve got all your content so before you post, make sure you have:

  • Finished article in text editor of your choice, and
  • All your images sourced and labelled with useful file names.

Go postal

Start by uploading your images to the Media Library, then create your post and add the text and place the images. Keep your post visibility set to ‘Private’ to hide it from public view. Once you are happy the post is complete, run through this list:

  • Headline not too long, not too short;
  • First para not too long, not too short – it needs to wrap the drop cap;
  • Crossheads and pullquotes in place to break up long text runs;
  • Images have all their metadata fields populated with their captions;
  • Images have their alignment sent to ‘center’ or ‘right’;
  • Image resolution in their blocks set to ‘Full Size’;
  • Images linked to their media files for pop-up view;
  • Featured image set;
  • Category or categories assigned to the post, and
  • No excess blanks or carriage returns so story end tag sits at the end of the final sentence.

When you have all of your content in place and all of the above boxes are ticked, take a look at the client-side of your post and give it a thorough eyeballing.
