Tesla tantrum – Fash Harry’s mate rages against reality

Following our reports on ‘Fash’ Harry Hilden’s inauspicious anti-migrant demo in Folkestone recently, followed by last Saturday’s UKIP march in Dover, Searchlight supporters have been in touch to add delicious detail to the colourful tapestry that is the saga of Shaun Chaney, driver of the wraparound racist Tesla which headed up both demonstrations.

Chaney’s Facebook page offers a rich if incontinent stream of consciousness from a man who appears to be locked in a bitter feud with reality.

Shaun Chaney heads the Folkestone demonstration

A month ago, he proudly announced that police had dared to knock at his gated Hothfield redoubt, with the outrageous request that he sign a community order after an alleged assault on an anti-racist.

Chaney, ever the gentleman pugilist, insisted it was “self-defence,” adding that the victim was “lucky I didn’t floor him proper.”

Confident that no rewrite of ours could do it “proper” justice, we reproduce his post here, in full:

JUST HAD 2 unmarked POLICE ???? ????????????????
ON MY GATE AGAIN !
Asking me to sign a public community order again !!
Told them to fuck off !!
For self defence on some lefty who came at me couple a weeks ago !
So he jumps out his car runs at me so I pushed him away stoping him in his tracks then he wants to press charges on me !!   WHAT IN THE FUCKING WORLD ???? IS GOING ON !! He’s lucky I didn’t floor him proper !!! An off duty police officer stoped or it would have escalated that’s for shore…
Havnt they got anything better to do !
HOW BOUT GO STOP SOME ILLEGALS FROM RAPE OR MURDER THAN  HARRASING ME !!!!    UNBELIEVABLE!!!

[…]

I lost the plot went fucking MENTEL at them they was saying calm down! Calm down !! Some cunt runs at me and I defend my self and I’m the one in the wrong !!!!! ???????????? I said you 2 are some sort or cunts are you blind or just like the your government. Obviously they are ! There all fucking so CURRUPT it’s unreal !! GO FUVK THEM SELFS THATS EHST YHEY CAN DO

This was hardly his debut performance. December 2024 brought the now-legendary moment when Kent Police interrupted his festive cheer by stopping him for allegedly driving his Tesla uninsured and sporting the doctored licence plate “HAHAFU” – a level of subtlety normally reserved for 13-year-olds on Xbox Live.

He had already been spotted running a red light in Folkestone, but according to Chaney, who boasts a couple of convictions for possessing offensive weapons, this was just another episode of his daily oppression by “jelous coppers…no good cunts with nothing better to do than harrass innocent members of the public”

Carvery bromance

Chaney also likes to remind the world of his bromance with Jeff Hacker, lord and master of the flag-soaked Kennington Carvery in Ashford.

In a November 2025 Facebook reminiscence, Chaney fondly recalls the time he was chased by police into the car park during a driving ban, only for Hacker to heroically refuse the police access to the CCTV.

Again, no re-rendering on our part could do this justice:

Just been to my favourite carvery again. my mate owns from London !!
Great bit of dinner ! Good company years ago police chased me into the car park was on a ban for dangerous driving . They wanted the evidence of me driving on his cameras ! He told them to fuck off !! ????. From that day we been good mates .. London geazer!

The carvery, meanwhile, has enjoyed its own press, achieving the culinary honour of a one-star hygiene rating in 2023 and facing demolition plans ever since.

But in the Chaney-Hacker cinematic universe, these details merely add flavour.

Action heroes

Chaney’s eccentricity is not confined to the road.

His pride and joy is a collection of life-sized comic-book action figures, including a giant model of The Incredible Hulk, perched atop his house.

Harry Hilden’s most recent march in Folkestone two weeks ago was billed as a show of strength; instead, it revealed his inability to herd even this small cast of characters.

Only about 35 graced the event with their presence and were, as we pointed out at the time, outnumbered by an anti-fascist bake sale.

Diminishing returns – Harry Hilden’s shrinking support on display in Folkestone

In its immediate wake, a disconsolate Hilden whined that if nobody was going to support him, he was packing in organising marches for the foreseeable future.

However, he executed a swift about turn only a few days later and led demonstrators who disrupted a meeting of Swale Borough Council as it debated whether to declare the borough a “District of Sanctuary”. We have reported that elsewhere.

The essence of trade unionism is solidarity, fairness and equality – for all workers – from all backgrounds. That’s why our fight against the far-right has always been part of our movement’s DNA. Searchlight is an incredibly important resource for trade unions and members to understand the contemporary tactics of far-right activity. Their work and intelligence gathering over the years have been incredibly insightful for the work we do, and how we fight the scourge of fascism.

In the campaign against the National Front, Searchlight provided a rich and utterly reliable basis for much ANL propaganda – particularly with reference to the two leading NF figures, John Tyndall and Martin Webster. The appearance of Tyndall in full nazi uniform, drawn from the archives of Searchlight, was a key part of ANL propaganda, coupled with deeply damaging nazi quotes from Webster.

Searchlight’s voice is more important than ever, and I am delighted that it will now be available to a wider audience than ever before in its new incarnation online. Searchlight has been extremely helpful over the years in exposing the far right, corruption, criminality and the murky links between organised crime and powerful interests in the UK and abroad. I wish Searchlight the very best.

To investigate fascists takes real courage and unusual commitment. The government, police, mainstream media occasionally take a look, but in the UK only Searchlight have kept at it, relentlessly and admirably, regardless of threat or obstacle. It’s journalism that matters. A rare thing.

British Jews have been persecuted over the centuries; British blacks since the Windrush generation of the 1950s; British Muslims, especially after the Islamist 9/11 and then 7/7 terrorist attacks in New York 2001 and London 2005. But until the last few years there has not been a simultaneous threat against all three British communities of Jewish, Black and Muslim Britons – meaning the need for Searchlight has never been greater.
