Having broken with his mate Ryan Bridge and Raise the Colours, Danny Tommo has unveiled his latest grand plan for saving Britain: a hastily arranged invasion of northern France, organised via evening livestreams once his children are in bed.

In a series of online posts, Tommo has announced he would be spending the coming days “preparing” supporters for a weekend excursion taking place next Saturday, 24 January.

“British patriots will be mobilised to France by land (Le Shuttle), air (flights), and sea (ferry).

“Operation Overlord is now fully active”.

Real English men

Presenting himself as a reluctant but determined leader, Tommo insisted this was not about chaos or violence, even as he talked up the significance of the move.

“I need real English men, real British men,” he declared, carefully clarifying that he does not want “idiots” or anyone expecting “a riot” or “any violence.” Instead, this is supposedly a serious, disciplined operation, described as “the first step that will be taken very quickly. No more waiting, no more messing around.”

According to Tommo, the French have made the grave error of “testing” him. “They’re testing us, and we’ll happily oblige,”.

“You’ve unleashed the British, and we don’t take lightly to the French taking the piss”.

On the beaches

What he has in mind, it seems apparently involves establishing “a presence on those beaches and in those local communities” in northern France. How this will “safeguard” England is left largely unexplained, but Tommo assured followers that the logistics will be simple.

He promises to explain “where to go, what to do, how to behave, and what needs to be done,” suggesting a level of military-style precision rarely seen in his earlier ventures. His last visit to a migrant camp in France led to a humiliating running retreat.

Brief operation

The operation will, however, be brief. “You don’t need to spend two, three, four days in France,” Tommo said. “You can get done what needs to be done within a matter of six to eight hours.”

Exactly what that is remains vague, but the tone is clear: another dramatic deadline, another urgent call to action, and another attempt to turn online outrage into a fleeting cross-Channel spectacle.

Searchlight’s voice is more important than ever, and I am delighted that it will now be available to a wider audience than ever before in its new incarnation online. Searchlight has been extremely helpful over the years in exposing the far right, corruption, criminality and the murky links between organised crime and powerful interests in the UK and abroad. I wish Searchlight the very best.

British Jews have been persecuted over the centuries; British blacks since the Windrush generation of the 1950s; British Muslims, especially after the Islamist 9/11 and then 7/7 terrorist attacks in New York 2001 and London 2005. But until the last few years there has not been a simultaneous threat against all three British communities of Jewish, Black and Muslim Britons – meaning the need for Searchlight has never been greater.

To investigate fascists takes real courage and unusual commitment. The government, police, mainstream media occasionally take a look, but in the UK only Searchlight have kept at it, relentlessly and admirably, regardless of threat or obstacle. It’s journalism that matters. A rare thing.

The essence of trade unionism is solidarity, fairness and equality – for all workers – from all backgrounds. That’s why our fight against the far-right has always been part of our movement’s DNA. Searchlight is an incredibly important resource for trade unions and members to understand the contemporary tactics of far-right activity. Their work and intelligence gathering over the years have been incredibly insightful for the work we do, and how we fight the scourge of fascism.

In the campaign against the National Front, Searchlight provided a rich and utterly reliable basis for much ANL propaganda – particularly with reference to the two leading NF figures, John Tyndall and Martin Webster. The appearance of Tyndall in full nazi uniform, drawn from the archives of Searchlight, was a key part of ANL propaganda, coupled with deeply damaging nazi quotes from Webster.
