Danny Tommo quits anti-migrant campaign- but did he jump or was he pushed?

Just hours after the French government announced that ten unnamed British far-right extremists had been banned from France, Tommy Robinson’s best mate Danny Tommo, by a distance the number one favourite for inclusion on the list, has announced that he is quitting the anti-migrant scene. Just hours after the French government announced that ten unnamed British far-right extremists had been banned from France, Tommy Robinson’s best mate Danny Tommo, by a distance the number one favourite for inclusion on the list, has announced that he is quitting the anti-migrant scene.

Raise The Colours has just posted an announcement saying:

“Danny Tommo has chosen to step away, and we recognise that decision with respect.

“Danny has played his part and we wish him well in whatever path he chooses next…”

I’m off – Danny Tommo quits

Curiously, the statement also adds that: “What matters is that we part without bitterness” suggesting that there may indeed have been some fallout behind the scenes.

But what really explains it? The obvious reason is that now the French have banned his trips over to France he has lost the most lucrative grift he has enjoyed in his entire life.

Because Tommy Robinson-supporting mugs have been pouring money into Tommo’s pockets to fund his excursions to the French coast so that he could slash a few inflatables and film himself in the process.

The ban means he now doesn’t have a proverbial pot…

For Tommo, this particular grift is over.

Impecunious end

As it could also be for UKIP leader Nick Tenconi who, we are informed, may also be on the banned list.

He won’t like it either. In recent months his fundraiser to finance trips over the channel to abuse and harass asylum seekers has kept the funds rolling in. But who is going to fund a Border Protection Mission” akaCalais Appeal” aka “Stop the Boats” when the main man and video star can’t make the trip.

Even allowing for the cretinism of Tenconi’s UKIP supporters, this may be another grift which has come grinding to an impecunious end.

British Jews have been persecuted over the centuries; British blacks since the Windrush generation of the 1950s; British Muslims, especially after the Islamist 9/11 and then 7/7 terrorist attacks in New York 2001 and London 2005. But until the last few years there has not been a simultaneous threat against all three British communities of Jewish, Black and Muslim Britons – meaning the need for Searchlight has never been greater.

Searchlight’s voice is more important than ever, and I am delighted that it will now be available to a wider audience than ever before in its new incarnation online. Searchlight has been extremely helpful over the years in exposing the far right, corruption, criminality and the murky links between organised crime and powerful interests in the UK and abroad. I wish Searchlight the very best.

To investigate fascists takes real courage and unusual commitment. The government, police, mainstream media occasionally take a look, but in the UK only Searchlight have kept at it, relentlessly and admirably, regardless of threat or obstacle. It’s journalism that matters. A rare thing.

In the campaign against the National Front, Searchlight provided a rich and utterly reliable basis for much ANL propaganda – particularly with reference to the two leading NF figures, John Tyndall and Martin Webster. The appearance of Tyndall in full nazi uniform, drawn from the archives of Searchlight, was a key part of ANL propaganda, coupled with deeply damaging nazi quotes from Webster.

The essence of trade unionism is solidarity, fairness and equality – for all workers – from all backgrounds. That’s why our fight against the far-right has always been part of our movement’s DNA. Searchlight is an incredibly important resource for trade unions and members to understand the contemporary tactics of far-right activity. Their work and intelligence gathering over the years have been incredibly insightful for the work we do, and how we fight the scourge of fascism.
